Practical Nursing Academic Excellence Scholarship

Provides up to  $450 for the clinical portion of the Practical Nursing program.

Eligibility:

All full-time students accepted into our Practical Nursing Program who have demonstrated academic excellence but have a short-term financial hardship that will force them to withdraw from the program.

Requirements:

Candidates for the Practical Nursing Academic Excellence Scholarship must:

Complete all requirements for acceptance into the Practical Nursing Certificate program:

  • Meet class and grade prerequisites
    • C or better in AHT 180 or an accepted TEAS Score
    • C or better in BIO 140 (or equivalent)
  • Have submitted (or have proof of submission of) all medical and background clearance
  • American Databank Account created
  • Official high school transcript, GED transcript, or PA Department of Education (DOE) Certificate of Preliminary Education (CPE) or proof of request
  • Negative Drug Screen Results
  • FBI Clearance including fingerprints
  • PA Child Abuse Clearance
  • PA Criminal Record Check
  • Current Adult, Child and Infant CPR (Healthcare Provider) certification
  • Mumps, rubella, rubeola, and varicella titers/ Booster vaccination(s) of mumps, rubella, rubeola, and/or varicella if titer non-reactive/non-immune with a repeat titer to verify immunity
  • Tetanus-diphtheria booster vaccination within the last 10 years
  • Tuberculosis screening 2 step OR Quantiferon blood test: negative results
  • Please note: if positive results must provide Chest X-ray result done within last 5 years.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series of three (3) doses completed OR in progress
  • Seasonal Flu vaccine is required
  • Current Certification in Adult, Infant and Child Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) (American Heart Association recommended)
  • Physical exam signed and dated by the healthcare provider.
  • Complete all Financial Aid for the Practical Nursing program
  • Submit a one-page essay explaining the short-term financial hardship

Award:

A Practical Nursing Academic Excellence Scholarship will be awarded “up to” but not to exceed $450 for the clinical portion of the Practical Nursing program. Funds will be applied to the student’s account only after PHEAA and PELL grants have been awarded in each term, in order to meet unfulfilled financial needs for the current term. No student stipends or refunds will be released directly to students from funds awarded through a Practical Nursing Academic Excellence Scholarship.

  • Practical Nursing Academic Excellence Scholarships will be awarded in the order they are received each year.
  • Institutional scholarship awards may not be combined.

No stipends are allowed.

By submitting the application, you are stating that you completed all requirements for acceptance into the Practical Nursing Certificate program; have submitted (or have proof of submission of) all medical and background clearances, and that you have completed all Financial Aid for the Practical Nursing program
