Practical Nursing Application

THE PRACTICAL NURSING APPLICATION WINDOW will open March 1, 2026 at midnight and close April 17,2026 at 11:59pm.  All applications will be reviewed according to the rubric once the application window closes.

Thank you for your interest in the Practical Nursing program. The program is a twelve (12) month, day program. Two (2) cohorts will be admitted each year (one in January and one in July). Admission to the Practical Nursing Program is highly competitive. We anticipate that the number of interested candidates will exceed the number of seats available.

**Practical Nursing Application Process**

Step 1: Pre-Screening

  • Do you have an official high school transcript or GED diploma with scores?
  • If you are a high school graduate from a foreign country or have an out-of-state GED, did you obtain a Certificate of Preliminary (CPE) Education from the Pennsylvania Department of Education?
  • Are you at least 18 years old?
  • Are you a U. S. citizen, permanent resident, or eligible non-citizen?
  • Have you completed the following pre-requisites?
    • BIO 120 Human Body Systems for Health Sciences (6) credits (or the equivalent of Anatomy & Physiology I and Anatomy & Physiology II) and achieve a grade of C or higher, which can be completed at P.I.T. or transferred from a Middle States Accredited institution.
    • AHT 105 Healthcare Foundations course (or the equivalent med-term and math courses) with a grade of C or higher.

If you answered yes to all of the above questions, proceed to step 2 (meeting the requirements is not a guarantee of admission into the program):

Step 2: Completion of Application

  • Complete all fields of the application.
  • Upload any certifications in applicable.
  • Complete the application essay and upload it in the application.

Step 3: Collection and Submission of Documents (The application can be submitted with these documents are in process)

  • Send official high school and/or post-secondary education transcripts to pnapplication@pit.edu
  • Send “volunteer hours” documented on the Volunteer Experience Log if applicable to pnapplication@pit.edu
  • Request a Professional Reference Recommendation using the form provided in the link below.  Recommendations should be submitted to pnapplication@pit.edu
  • Complete the requested clearance requirements located in American Databank which include:
    • PA Criminal Record Check
    • FBI Fingerprint Background Check
    • Child Abuse clearance
    • Drug Screen
    • Physical Examination including immunizations, titers, Tdap and tuberculosis screenings.  If tuberculosis screening is positive, chest x-ray with a doctor’s note within the last 5 years is required.
    • American Heart Associate BLS Provider (CPR & AED – Adult, Infant, Child) Certification
    • Flu Vaccine
    • COVID-19 vaccine and recommended boosters per CDC guidelines
